Project Bring the Musicians Back to Israel The Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion

Culture and Sports

#23

In cooperation with the orchestra’s director general, Ofer Sela, we recently raised a millions of dollars from a large philanthropic foundation.

These funds were solicited in order to enable the orchestra to bring back to Israel a select group of Israeli musicians of the first rank, incorporate them in the orchestra, and thus complete various instruments that the orchestra needs, due to the retirement of veteran musicians.

The donation will be made over the course of seven years. In each of the first three years auditions will be held, and every year four Israeli musicians, who currently play in orchestras abroad, will be invited to join the ISO (for a total of 12 musicians).

In order to ease the return to Israel, each musician who joins the orchestra will receive, in addition to his or her salary, a grant of $18,000 per year for five years, which will be covered by the donation.

This donation means moving in a significant direction for the orchestra, for the community of Israeli-born musical artists, and if we do say so, for Zionism, for the City of Rishon LeZion, and for the State of Israel as well.
